Course Objective: You will use IBM Lotus Domino Designer 8 to develop multi-database applications.
Target Student: The target audience for this course is application developers who have experience creating or modifying single database applications with Lotus Domino Designer 6, 7, or 8.
Prerequisites: Students taking this course should have experience using the IBM Lotus Notes client to access applications and possess the equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience developing Lotus Domino 6, 7, or 8 applications. Students should have completed the Fundamentals of Lotus Domino 8 Application Development or Developing Lotus Domino 6/6.5 Applications: Foundation Skills course.
Delivery Method: Instructor led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.
Hardware Requirements
The following list details the minimum hardware necessary for the setup of the primary classroom server:
- At least 1GB of RAM per CPU. However, for optimal performance, you might need to use 2 GB or more.
- A Pentium class (or higher) processor and compatibles. A Pentium 4, 2.6 GHz, processor is recommended.
- An SVGA (or better) video card and monitor. Support for 256 colors, 800 x 600 resolution.
- At least 2 GB (per partition) of free hard disk space. 40 GB of free disk space is recommended.
- For disk swap space, at least twice the amount of installed RAM.
- A mouse or other pointing device.
- A CD-ROM drive or access to a network file server for installation.
The following list details the minimum hardware necessary for the setup of the instructor and student client computers:
- At least 1 GB of RAM, 1.5 GB is recommended.
- A Pentium class processor.
- An SVGA (or better) video card and monitor. Support for 256 colors, 800 x 600 resolution.
- At least 1.5 GB of free hard disk space, 3 GB is recommended.
- A mouse or other pointing device.
- A CD-ROM drive or access to a network file server for installation.
- Synchronize system time with all classroom machines.
Software Requirements
The following list identifies the software requirements for the primary classroom server. Please note that proper licensing for all software is required and is the responsibility of the training organization.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Standard or Enterprise Edition) (the latest Service Pack is recommended, but not required) or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (or Advanced Server) with Service Pack 4.
- IBM Lotus Domino 8.
- DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Server Edition 8.2 with FixPak 12.
The following software is required for the instructor and student client computers. Please note that proper licensing for all software is required and is the responsibility of the training organization.
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional, with all applicable Service Packs.
- IBM Lotus Notes 8.
- IBM Lotus Domino Administrator (for instructor) and IBM Lotus Domino Designer 8 for all clients.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, with all applicable Service Packs.
- Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE), Java™ 2 v1.4.2 or higher.
- TCP/IP using either Hosts file or DNS with server and domain names defined in the TCP/IP protocol configuration.
- All machines must be connected with Internet access.
Performance-Based Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Use formula language to inspect and manipulate text values and lists, and use iterative statement functions.
- Implement functions that interact with users through different types of dialog boxes using the @Prompt and @DialogBox functions.
- Implement advanced view design features to enhance how Lotus Notes displays documents.
- Examine and use several IBM Lotus Domino design elements as navigation structures, including links and imagemaps.
- Create and embed an outline.
- Work with framesets and frames.
- Access data in Lotus Domino databases by using formula language and profile documents.
- Use the formula language to access data sources using the Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) interface.
- Examine Domino Enterprise Connection Services (DECS) and implement real-time data mapping between a Domino application and a relational database.
- Implement workflow in Lotus Domino applications.
- Secure Lotus Domino application data by controlling access and encrypting data.
